Last night Alana and I were in the mall food court sharing a large Dr Pepper and eating our Dairy Queen ice cream cones (which we did not share) when Alana told me to google the Saturday night service time at Canyon View Vineyard that I had suggested to her earlier. I pulled up on my phone … yep 6pm. We had 4 minutes. So we went and shared in the experience.
It was refreshing to be in a different church, to see how they do things, be in worship without running around like crazy. It was nice for Alana to be back in the church she spent 2.5 years of her life serving in. It was nice for Jayden to play with a TON of other kids in the nursery. The worship was high-quality and the announcement video cool.
When the teaching pastor Chalane Coit got up to speak, I leaned over in excitement and whispered in Alana’s ear, “a lady preacher!” It was a good message - and timely. She spoke on insignificant people with insignificant skills having a radical impact because of the significant power of God working through them. It was all a tie in for ShareFest, a weekend of blessing the community by doing odd jobs. I wish JFC was one of the 30 churches involved but Alana and I will be at Acquire the Fire that weekend. Oh well, maybe next year. Anyway, the service ended with the band leading us in one more worship song, God of this City by Chris Tomlin. Nice.
